Supplemental International Student Refund Critera

Sault College's international student withdrawal and refund policy is developed in compliance with the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities’ Binding Policy Directives, as well as Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) guidelines and policies.

Important Notes

  • Withdrawal requests must be received no later than the 10th business day (Day 10) from the start of the semester for a refund to be considered.  The appropriate Withdrawal and Refund Forms must be fully and properly completed, and the required documents must be submitted in order to initiate each process.
  • If a student submits a withdrawal request after the 10th business day (Day 10) from the start of the semester, only subsequent semester fees paid will be reimbursed. Any outstanding balances owing on a student’s account will be deducted from the refund.
  • For current international students, withdrawals/course load reductions may result in a negative impact to IRCC status in Canada and/or future immigration applications. Please seek immigration advice before continuing with the withdrawal or refund request.
  • Non-attendance and/or payment cancellation does not equate to a formal withdrawal and accordingly unpaid fees will remain due.
  • For all payments originated from outside of Canada, if a refund is requested, the funds will only be returned to the originating source (i.e. country + person making the payment).

Refund Request due to Visa and/or Study Permit Refusal

Where an international student has:

i)                    submitted a visa and study permit application with IRCC within the validity period of the Provincial Attestation Letter that was issued to them and,
ii)                   subsequently received an official visa or study permit refusal from IRCC,

on formal request for a refund, they will be eligible to receive a refund, a $400 non-refundable withdrawal fee.

Please note that the official refusal letter issued by IRCC must be dated after the latest Letter of Acceptance issued by Sault College.  Bank charges may apply and will be deducted from the refund in addition to the fees listed above under Important Notes.

International applicants that have received a visa and/or study permit rejection and would require another Provincial Attestation Letter to reapply for a visa or study permit should not submit a new application or deferral request to Sault College.  Sault College will not process new applications, deferrals or refund application fees to applicants who reapply if they require an additional PAL after an official visa or study permit refusal has been received.

Refund Request for Reasons Other Than Visa and/or Study Permit Refusal

If, for reasons other than a visa or study permit refusal, international applicants officially withdraw before the end of the 10th business day (Day 10) from the start of the semester, and request a refund, they will be eligible to receive a refund less a $2,500 non-refundable withdrawal fee.

Where an international applicant has:

i)                    submitted a visa and study permit application with IRCC outside of the validity period of the Provincial Attestation Letter that was issued to them and,
ii)
subsequently had their application from IRCC returned or received an official visa or study permit refusal from IRCC, and
iii)
requests a refund

they will be eligible to receive a refund, less a $2500 non-refundable withdrawal fee.

International applicants that have previously received a Provincial Attestation Letter from Sault College and would require another Provincial Attestation Letter to reapply to IRCC for a visa or study permit should not submit a new application or deferral request to Sault College.  Sault College will not process new applications, deferral requests, or refund new application fees to applicants who reapply if they have already been issued a Provincial Attestation Letter by Sault College.
