The Health Care Matters: Common Care Training Program is a pre-employment program designed to prepare job seekers for careers in the health care sector. The training has been designed in cooperation with local employers to better meet their anticipated hiring needs. The program includes job-specific, technical, essential, and soft skills training. Local health care employers have provided input into the training curriculum and are directly involved in both program design and delivery.

In class/virtual training will run September-November 2022. Staff will also work with you to secure an experiential learning opportunity in the sector as well as arrange for certifications.Training Hours
This is a short-term, full-time program. Approximately 30-40 hours per week, over 8 weeks. We are currently finalizing the schedule but participants should be available to participate in classes weekdays, weekends and evenings. A course schedule will be provided prior to the start of training.Cost
There is no cost to participate.Location
The majority of training will occur virtually over Microsoft Teams, however in-person training is anticipated to take place in Sault Ste. Marie. Employment opportunities and connections will be available in various locations and based on the needs of employers.
- Eligibility Requirements
Designed to assist individuals in obtaining higher skill levels and maintain longer-term employment in the health care sector. Participants must meet the following eligibility requirements:- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident)
- Must be unemployed, working less than 20 hours per week, or living on low household income
- Must not be currently enrolled in school or returning to school in the fall
- Must have an interest in working in the health care sector
