Our Hairstyling program offers a unique opportunity for students to work with community members experiencing hair loss through our wig clinic - Hair's To You. We provide them with a wig, boosting their confidence along the way. They receive personalized consultations and fittings for various wig styles - all at no cost!
We have been able to grow our inventory of wigs thanks to generous donations from our community and clients. Along with receiving a complimentary wig, clients benefit from ongoing wig maintenance, including cleaning, sanitizing, and styling, making sure they continue to look and feel their best.
Wigs can be expensive, ranging from $350 for synthetic to $1,200 for human hair. Fortunately, we have a partnership with the Wig Boutique in Sault Ste. Marie. They are very generous to our cause and it's where we purchase our wigs from. The Wig Boutique also provides complimentary wig maintenance for our wig clinic clients whose wigs may have heat damage. Hair's To You has purchased $32,000 worth of wigs since its inception.
The story of Hair's To You started in 2013, when the cancer clinic asked our Hairstyling program to store and maintain their wigs. Faculty saw a need for more modern and high-quality wigs, and that's when Hair's To You came to be and fundraising efforts began. First, an awareness and spare change campaign ran across salons in Sault Ste. Marie. In 2014, Hair's To You was chosen as the charity of choice for Paint and Décor Concept's charity auction, successfully raising $9,000. From 2015 to 2019, the Hairstyling program hosted dinner and fashion events, attracting hundreds in attendance, and raising over $10,000 for the wig clinic.
This initiative not only enhances the lives of those in need of this service, but also provides invaluable hands-on experience for our Hairstyling students and staff in supporting clients with hair loss and working with wigs.
