Ways to Give

Gift of Cash

Gifts of cash can be made by credit card, money order, cash or personal cheque payable to Sault College. Your donation may be paid outright or in instalments over a period of several months or years. Your gift, regardless of size, may be directed to an area of your choice. You may also choose to help sustain your impact through regular and consistent contributions to Sault College. You can set up your credit card to be charged a certain amount at a frequency of your choosing.

Gift of Cash with Corporate Matching

Many companies encourage their employees to contribute to charities by offering a "matching gift" program. Your employer may donate funds equal to your contribution to the same fund, effectively doubling the gift. Check with your employer to see if they offer a charitable gift matching program. If your company provides a matching gift, request a matching gift form from your employer, complete, sign and return it with your gift. We will do the rest!

Gifts-in-Kind

A gift-in-kind is a non-cash donation and includes tangible items such as personal effects, artwork and real estate. Sault College will gladly accept any gifts-in-kind for which there is a use on campus. The acceptance of gifts-in-kind is made on a case-by-case basis. Upon appraisal, a donation receipt will be issued for the fair market value of your gift.

Gifts of Securities, Stocks and Bonds

A gift of publicly traded securities to Sault College is an excellent way to support excellence in teaching and learning, and benefit from very favourable tax credits. When you donate stocks, bonds, futures and options, as well as shares in mutual funds to Sault College you do not have to pay tax on the capital gain (the increase in value, since you acquired the securities). The combined benefit of not paying tax on the capital gain and the charitable tax receipt you receive provides excellent tax benefits.

Gift Pledges

Pledged gifts are formal statements of intention to make a gift. With a pledge, an agreement is signed with intent to make a payment of your gift at a regularly scheduled time, often over the duration of months/ years. Each payment of your pledge is eligible for an income-tax deduction.

Endowed Gifts

Endowed gifts are designed to continue providing benefits for many years into the future. Choosing an endowed fund allows your contribution to become a permanent part of the College by providing a stable, reliable source of funding. Your gift is not spent immediately but instead is invested in a diversified portfolio of investments. Each year the account is evaluated and a portion of the earnings is used to fund particular programs or projects (for example, a scholarship) and the remaining portion of the earnings is added to the principal of the endowment. An endowment is a great way to link your legacy with our future forever. If you are considering an endowed gift, we recommend you do so in consultation with your financial planner and/or legal counsel.

Planned Giving

Planned Gifts are commitments you make to Sault College that will benefit the College at some future date. Planned gifts may include a provision in your will or trust, a charitable remainder trust, a charitable gift annuity, or life insurance. A planned gift allows you to make a significant philanthropic impact while receiving tax benefits that, in some instances, can reduce the out-of-pocket cost of each gift considerably. Many individuals may find planned giving opportunities attractive because they can help satisfy your tax and financial goals as well as provide significant support to our College. If you are considering a planned gift, we recommend you do so in consultation with your financial planner and/or legal counsel.

Named Gifts

A named gift sends a strong message to the community that an individuals, businesses or organizations have given generously to support Sault College. Opportunities for donors to have their name associated with the College facility provide a meaningful way for us to say thank-you and to recognize the significant financial contributions given to us. There are a variety of opportunities for donors to have their name associated with a specific building or classroom, or a specific student award or bursary. Named locations remind students, staff, faculty and visitors that Sault College’s excellence in education is a direct result of the generosity and commitment of our donors.

Tribute Gifts

A tribute gift is a way to provide special recognition for family, friends or colleagues particularly for events such as graduation, birthdays, weddings or anniversaries. A donation in lieu of a gift is a great way to make a lasting impression. By making such a gift you are not only honouring those who deserve recognition, you are investing in the future of a College community with which the gift recipient has a strong and positive association. The amount of your donation is kept strictly confidential and can be directed to specific areas or student awards that you wish to support.

Memorial Gifts

Gifts in memory can be made to recognize someone dear to you who has passed away and to celebrate his or her life. We will send an acknowledgement to the surviving family with the name and address of the donor, but not the amount of the gift. Special funds may be set up in the name of the deceased, if requested, depending on the amount of the gift and whether donors intend to make additional gifts in the future.
