This course introduces students to the Child and Youth Care perspective of working with families in their daily lives. Students will examine the behavioural, developmental and psychosocial strengths and needs of children, youth and families in relation to their current family environments.  Practical application of strategies that support the concept of therapeutic milieu will be introduced. students examine various evidence-based methodologies and review a representative sampling of family interventions. The course has a practical orientation as various aspects of parenting within the present societal demands of family life are explored. A focus on interventions geared specifically to building strengths within the family is a key component of the course.
