The OpportunityA Financial Accounting Technician responsible for assisting in the preparation of the appropriate working papers monthly/quarterly and annually along with the documented support for all accounting transactions. The incumbent is also responsible for monthly/quarterly analytical review of the financial and accounting data on the general ledger. The Financial Accounting Technician ensures the timely and accurate processing of travel expense claims and travel advances submitted by staff, preparing journal entries, and ensuring that the financial information being recorded in the general ledger is accurate and in accordance with policies and procedures. The incumbent will also assist with the analysis of data required to maintain the College’s financial processes and assist the Financial Services Department in the completion of required reporting responsibilities.

What you need to be successful:

  • degree or diploma in an Accounting program
    • obtained or working towards obtaining a professional accounting designation preferred
  • minimum three years’ work experience in the accounting field
  • experience analyzing financial data, preparing working papers, and entering transactions into the general ledger
  • experience in financial statement preparation and purchasing/fixed assets
  • working knowledge of accounting practices, ability to create and adjust journal entries, and ability to perform financial accounting and general ledger account analysis to identify account problems and undertake corrective action
  • advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • excellent working knowledge of computerized financial systems and Microsoft Office products
  • strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • excellent organizational and planning skills
  • strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment

 

This is a regular part-time support staff position, $24.13/hour, 24 hours/week.
