How do I apply as a Mature Student?

A mature student is someone who is 19 years of age or older by the first day of College and has not graduated from high school. If you have graduated from high school but haven’t been to school in a while, you’re an adult learner.

If you’re a mature student, you can still apply to College, and have two options:

  • You can pay $25 to write the Canadian Academic Achievement Test (CAAT) for Math and/or English requirements only or you can take Academic Upgrading for free to get your high school equivalency for any of our college programs.

If you’re an adult learner – that, is, have graduated from high school and have been out of school for a while, you still may want to consider free Academic Upgrading to re-fresh your skills before the start of your program. Call April Field 705-759-2554, extension 2320.

If you think you have the requirements for the College program you’re interested in, you’ll want to do the following:

1. Go online to www.ontariocolleges.ca by February 1st for equal consideration. Follow the prompts to complete the process. There is a non-refundable $95 fee to apply.

2. Watch for communication from Sault College. As soon as you apply you’ll receive an email letting you know we’ve received your application and detailing how to access your new Sault College portal. Once your application is processed, you’ll receive an official letter in the mail to let you know if you are accepted into your program of choice.

3. The most important step is going back online to www.ontariocolleges.ca to confirm your offer once we’ve accepted you into your program. Offers of admission are sent out after February 1st. We need to know you’re coming so we can get things ready for you.

4. Lastly, you’ll need to pay your fees to secure your spot. We’ll let you know what else you need along the way. Congratulations! You’ve just made a great choice in choosing Sault. We’ll see you soon.
